E3 2009 is nearly here!

Over the last couple of years E3 has been in a state of flux, first it was cancelled, then it was back, but only as a very scaled back press conference, none of this big show stuff from years gone by… But this year it’s back in full force! June 2nd - 4th!

If you’ve not sure what E3 is, it’s the Electronic Entertainment Expo (hence E3 for short) held in Los Angeles, where all the big names in the gaming industry come out to show of their latest and greatest upcoming games, consoles and other cool stuff. Here’s some of the cool new games that’s going to be on show this year:

There will be loads of other new games announced to be excited about, so keep an eye out! E3 is back!

Thief 4 announced

Woohoo! Thief 4 has been announced, and by announced I mean an official website has launched with it’s logo, and pretty much no information.

Thief 4

What’s Thief and why should I care you ask? well it’s one of the best stealth games ever created:

Thief is a series of stealth video games where the player takes the role of Garrett, a thief in a fantasy/steampunk world resembling a cross between the Late Middle Ages and the Victorian era, with more advanced technologies interspersed.

If you’re interested to find out more Eurogamer recently ran a retrospective article about the first game, well worth a read. Also you can pick up the original 2 games for a bargain price.

TF2 Sniper Update meets Super Smash Bros!

A few Team Fortress snippets here from the last couple of days.  I was pretty into TF2 at one point and it’s still good for the odd game here and there.  One thing I do like is how the community is being kept alive by these micro updates.  Upcoming is the release of the Sniper update which as far as I can tell features a compound bow :o  Awesome!  Sticking people to walls with an arrow is one thing I definitely think TF2 is missing, well.. no more!

Also while I was looking for TF2 stuff I came across this really bizarre TF2 recreation of the Super Smash Bros (not brawl) intro, it’s really, really well done!  Kudos to the guy that created it!

Quiet week for new games

It’s a quiet week for gamers out there this week, so I think I’m going to have to play through some games I missed when they first game out (a great way to play good games for the budget gamer). Here are some choice/recommendations to those out there looking for a good cheap game:

Looks like it’s a slow week again next week, so I’ll do another selection then!

New Games at Bloke Bingo

Bloke Bingo have just released some new games to play on.   Firstly there is Blackjack which is exactly the same as you would play in a casino, a nice blokey game if ever there was one.  There is a new game, Mafia Millions which is a 5 reel twenty line slot, stakes range from 5p to £2 with the usual bonus games to boot.  Maximum stakes could net you the progressive jackpot which is always a biggie.  To end with there is a brand new multiplayer slot called Marine Mayhem which sounds little complex but could be fun!

If you’ve played our fab slot game Marine Mayhem Mini and loved it, then you’re in for a treat! We now have two rooms of Marine Mayhem, but not as you know it! These two new rooms are multiplayer slot games where you can earn points with each spin and compete with other players to win a share of the jackpot!

Play from just 1p to win cash prizes as well as points, with the top 10 scoring players at the end of the game sharing the community jackpot! Keep your eye on the countdown clock though, because when the time is up the jackpot reels will spin to decide which jackpot amount will be paid out between the top 10 players!

Battlefield 1943 Thoughts

If there was one game I enjoyed more than most others it would be Battlefield 1942 so I have been following Battlefield 1943 with great hopes.  Some things excite me about this next gen game but it seems some of the games original charm have been lost.  Basically I was reading this interview over at AtomicGamer with DICE producer Gordon Van Dyke (who has apparently had to censor his name in some forums!) and there are some bits I am less than happy about.

At its core it’s a Battlefield game, an accessible game that we’re delivering in an arcade fashion. We wanted to emphasize the accessibility, so you’ll access it through a download, jump in, and everything just comes to you… it quickly gets you in the action. They’ll be a ranking system, awards, all the stuff you’d get with a Battlefield game, like you got in Bad Company and 2142, all delivered in an arcade fashion.

What I picked up on was the arcade fashion statement which scares the hell out of me as a PC gamer.  What I loved about Battlefield 1942 was its lack of arcade.  I know this game is multiplatform and is being released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in June but where does it leave us PC gamers and what can we expect in September?   Battlefield Heroes was a huge disappointment to me and I really don’t want to see BF1943 go the same way.

That said there are some aspects I am excited about, firstly being the mention in the interview that this isn’t a true successor to BF1942, they wanted to leave that open.  Could be good news for us hardcore fans but the wait could be long, if not endless!  Secondly it is good to see that they are quite focussed on capturing the Battlefield moments, this is where my heart is and if they could pull this off then I might be tempted to look over the other omissions (and wait patiently in a mollified state until a true successor comes along).

Well, with this game we’re not trying to make a true successor to 1942, so we wanted to leave that open. The main goal with 1943 was to make a Battlefield game that really highlighted the essence of Battlefield, which are these great Battlefield moments — these crazy scenarios you can create… the sheer volume of things that can happen and what you can do in the game: You can fly an airplane, you can parachute out of the airplane, you can shoot someone while you’re parachuting. Or you can drive a tank, jump out right before someone destroys it, and go get the guy who destroyed it by hitting him over the head with a wrench. The amount of things you can do is endless.

So I guess we will wait and see, I am not ruling this out nor I am waiting with bated breath.  Cmon DICE, show me you can make something great again :)

An even better reason to get Fallout 3

Last year Fallout 3 was released, and it was an awesome game! It’s an RPG with an action twist in a giant world for you to explore and exploit! But one of the great things about it has been the release of it’s downloadable content (DLC as it’s known).

First there was Operation Anchorage, there there was The Pitt, but tomorrow sees the release of Broken Steel:

It not only adds more content, but it changes the way the end of the game finishes allowing you to keep on playing it. That might sound odd if you’ve not played it, but let me tell you it’s a big thing if you have!

Since the game has been out for a while you’ll be able to get it at a great price now, and if you do get it you’ll be in for a treat!

Sofas, Beds, Plates.. aargh

I know, every man’s nightmare, moving house AND being involved in all of the shopping decisions… sigh!  I am seriously not sure why a choice can be made in a concise and simple matter.   Weight up the pros and cons (nothings perfect) and get on with it!  Saves stress, worry, lives etc.   I am sure, of course, that the place will look lovely but I do have the feeling I have just been floating along waiting for things to calm down lol.

Obviously I have been able to get some say in things, picked a lovely Samsung TV which I did quite a lot of reading on beforehand, but it wasn’t stressfull ;)  I had already resigned to the fact that as soon as I clicked buy, there would be another TV out that is cheaper, better quality and makes me a cup of tea too…

Take a look tho!  The Samsung LE40B650.  It’s not as good as Trip’s new Samsung UE40B7020, but you can’t have everything (and a gf!).

Anyway I think I am gonna go play some bingo and possibly drool over Jumpgate Evolution again!
